What is Reiki?
Reiki, pronounced
"Ray-Key", is a natural healing technique that uses the laying -on-of-hands.
The word Reiki comes from 2 Japanese words- Rei and Ki . The word Rei as it
is used in Reiki is interpreted to mean higher knowledge, spiritual
consciousness or God-consciousness. The word Ki means the same as Chi in
Chinese, Prana in Sanskrit and Ti or Ki in Hawaiian. Ki is life energy. It
is also known as the vital life force or the universal life force. This is
the non-physical energy that animates all living things. The word Reiki then
means "Spiritually guided life force energy" or as some say, "Universal Life
Force Energy". Given many names by many sources and cultures, The Universal
Life Force Energy is the source of all creation.
Reiki is very versatile
and can be used to heal or improve any human condition or difficulty,
physically and spiritually. This ancient process of energy balancing has
dramatic success in speeding the healing of injured areas and assisting
recovery from illness. In addition to healing yourself and others, it can
also be used to protect from harm, help solve problems and achieve goals.
Reiki is an energy that comes directly from the highest spiritual source. It
is multi-dimensional and will heal the cause of a problem on what level it
may exist, be it the body, the mind, the emotions or the spirit. Reiki works
at the source of the problem, not just the symptoms. A treatment feels like
a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through you and surrounds you. Many
have reported miraculous results. Reiki is a simple, natural, and safe
method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use.
Reiki has had a positive
impact on all forms of negative conditions from minor things such as a head
ache, colds, flu, tension and anxiety to more serious conditions such as
cancer, heart disease, serious burns and cuts, herniated discs and broken
bones. The negative side effects of medical treatments such as chemotherapy,
depression, and post operative pain have also been effected by Reiki, as
well as reducing the time it takes to heal. Reiki also has a dramatic effect
on stress and stress related illnesses. Reiki always helps and in some cases
people have experienced complete healing which has been confirmed by medical
test before and after Reiki treatments.
Awaken Reiki In You
by Vickie Kissel
Natural healing has been
around since the beginning of time and is still practiced today. When a
small child trips and hurts his knee, his mother automatically places a kiss
on the boo-boo and places her hand over the wound. This simple act, with
intent of nothing more than to comfort the child, is actually transferring
healing energy from mother to child. The result is a happy child that feels
“all better now”.
In today’s society we hear
buzz words of natural healing modalities, Reiki, massage, reflexology,
energy healing, alternative health, holistic health, the list goes on. We
are the “now” generation, searching for greater health, we want to feel
better “now” and expect the doctor or practitioner to deliver it “now”.
When this doesn’t happen or it takes longer than we think it should, we
become discouraged and enraged that we have not been “cured”.
When healing from an
illness, there are three points to remember: 1) You, and only you are
responsible for the illness. No one “gave” you this illness, and no one can
“take” it away. 2) You are responsible for your own healing. So often we
go to the doctor or practitioner expecting instantaneous healing.
Disillusioned that we weren’t “healed” we continue our search to find the
one that has magic. By taking responsibility for our own healing we can ask
our self: what changes am I making in my life on a physical, emotional,
mental and spiritual level to allow the healing to come in? What part of me
is blocking the healing? 3) Healing is hard work. Are you willing to
explore your illness on a physical, emotional, mental and spiritual level?
Are you willing to change your perceptions and belief systems?
In looking at our health
through a holistic point of view we begin to see the entire scope of illness
is not just what is happening in the physical body, it is what is happening
holistically, meaning in our body, mind and spirit for our entire energy
system is interconnected.
Our body’s energy system is
made up on a physical (our body), emotional (our feelings), mental (our
thoughts) and spiritual level (our beliefs – not necessarily religious).
Disease and illness is normally treated on a physical level. By the time we
feel ill, we have experienced energy blocks on the spiritual, mental, and
emotional levels before it reaches our physical body. Reiki releases
blocked energy, which promotes relaxation and helps to relieve pain and
stress, resulting in healing of all levels. It strengthens the immune
system and promotes faster healing.
Reiki is a holistic healing
system that addresses the whole person: physical, mental, emotional and
spiritual levels. A natural light touch relaxation technique, Reiki
balances the body’s energy by strengthening and harmonizing. A balanced
energy system is the best defense against disease. Health is the harmonious
flow of life energy, while imbalances in this flow (due to unhealthy habits
or negative emotions) lead to illness. When stress disrupts the movement of
life energy, our mind, body, and spirit are all affected, and the tendency
to become ill increases.
A particularly gentle
technique, Reiki is non-invasive and non-manipulative. Treatments can be
effective for treating injuries, illnesses, assisting the body in cleaning
itself from toxins, as stress relief, to alleviate pain, and to speed the
healing process in any condition since it works on the symptoms in addition
to the deeper cause.
Because Reiki works on an
energetic level, it is complimentary to any medical care you may be
currently be under. It compliments and enhances the health care the patient
receives in the hospital or from other health care providers. It is not the
intent of Reiki to replace medical care, rather to work hand in hand to
speed the recovery process. Today, several hospitals across the United
States have incorporated a Reiki practitioner in their operating rooms and
studies have shown a significant increase in the recovery process.
A natural adjunct to nursing
care, Reiki trained nurses have reported shifts in the patients condition
following a Reiki treatment such as: the patients “pink-up:, patients sleep
more calmly for extended periods of time, less time is needed to calm
patients following a stressful event, and patients report a decrease in
pain. In addition to the benefits the patient’s experience, using Reiki on
self, can reduce the experience of burnout and job related stress.
In Hospice and care giving
situations, Reiki is priceless. Pain medication can be reduced for the
hospice patient, by receiving regular Reiki treatments. In addition, the
patient is more calm, relaxed, and alert to deal with emotional issues of
closure with loved ones and in the final stages, Reiki gives the patient
energy for closure and dying. Treatments given to the caregiver assists to
center them and keep exhaustion to a minimum. A Reiki trained hospice
patient is empowered to manage their own pain and deal with their fears and
anxieties about dying. By training the family members, the sense of
helplessness in terminal situations become more tolerable because they have
something of value to offer when nothing else can be done. Reiki gives them
a reason to touch – transmuting sadness into loving action; anxieties
decrease enabling patient and those close to him to focus more on accepting
and understanding the impending death.
For senior citizens, Reiki
can be the avenue for a longer healthier life. It has been very affective
in treating arthritis and other ailments, lower blood pressure, aids in
better sleep, and accelerate the body’s self-healing abilities, therefore
increases the vitality and postpones the aging process.
Long term practice of whole
body Reiki will restore the general health of the body by opening the energy
channels resulting in the body better prepared to deal properly and
naturally with stress and build-up toxins in the body. Regular therapy will
increase the body’s built-in defenses, and will manifest itself as
confidence, outward harmony and a more positive outlook on life.
If you are tired of being
tired, sick of being sick, then it is time to develop your own personal
healing program. Reiki is a powerful tool for healing and personal growth.
Its energy comes from the highest spiritual source therefore creates the
best results for all concerned. Reiki is not a belief system or religion.
It can be used to heal the body, mind and spirit in addition to guiding us
through life.
